The situation

A heating contractor that expands across many communities takes on travel time, scattered crews and marketing in every town it enters. Reputation has to be built in each place, and the cost of serving a distant customer is easy to ignore when the sale feels good. The challenge was to grow the footprint and the review base while keeping a clear view of what each community actually cost to serve and what it returned.

What was done

  • Built community-level web presence so each area could attract its own enquiries
  • Made reviews a routine part of every completed job rather than an occasional request
  • Tracked enquiries and completed work by community
  • Used that view to decide where to push harder and where to hold
  • Kept the brand and the offer consistent across the whole footprint

What it means for value

A wide service area is a pricing and margin question before it is a marketing one. Every extra community adds drive time, fuel and scheduling cost, and only a job-level margin view shows whether the work there is worth it. The finance lesson is to report revenue and cost by area, price distant work to include the road and let reviews and reputation compound where the margin is real. We build that reporting for trades companies alongside your CPA.
